The field has been advancing rapidly as problems with it are overcome, including accuracy, speed of recognition and the number of words recognized as well as the ways of saying them. The technology may be tuned to a specific voice or it may respond to any voice. Google has led the way in adaptations for mobile phones, including search and voice-command applications. The company also is developing voice search applications for desktop computers. Future uses are expected to include voice commands for operating home appliances.
