Great gifts for a richer life

Buy from a charitable organization

Giving in the name of someone else is a great gift for the philanthropic-minded on your list. They also get a present as a reminder of your charitable donation.

Sevenly: Every seven days, this group partners with a charity dedicated to one of seven key causes: hunger, water, slavery, aid, disaster, medical and poverty. Sevenly creates a T-shirt (with really fantastic designs) for each of its 52 annual campaigns. The shirts cost $27, $7 of which goes to that week's charity. A recent campaign helped families adopt orphaned children in Asia and featured a shirt with the phrase: "All They Need Is Love." (sevenly.org)

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer: This not-for-profit group sends all proceeds to pediatric cancer research. The Good Cookie Gift Set ($59.99) includes two dozen cookies and a copy of The Best Bake Sale cookbook, inspired by charity cofounder Gretchen Holt-Witt whose 2007 bake sale featured 96,000 cookies and raised more than $400,000 for new pediatric cancer treatments.
