Top money market accounts pay 1.15% in December

Jar filled with pennies

Two online divisions of a New York bank offer the top nationally available deal on money market accounts.

AmTrust Direct and My Banking Direct both pay 1.15% APY with a $5,000 minimum deposit.

If your balance falls below $5,000 in either account, you'll earn 0.25% APY.

AmTrust Direct and My Banking Direct both are online divisions of New York Community Bank. The bank has more than 200 branches in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Ohio and Arizona, but you'll need to open an account through one of these two websites to earn this rate.

The two hold the top nationally available bank money market account after Incrediblebank cuts its interest rates this month. It now pays 1.10%.

That rate is still good enough to make it the third-best nationally available deal.

Incrediblebank pays its top rate on balances between $2,500 and $249,999. Any portion of balances above that amount earn 0.60% APY. A $2,500 minimum deposit is required to open an account.

Incrediblebank is the online division of River Valley Bank of Rothschild, Wis., which has 16 brick-and-mortar locations in Wisconsin and Michigan.

None of these accounts are quite as good as the top nationally available savings rate of 1.30% APY offered by UFB Direct (, the online division of BofI Federal Bank (formerly Bank of Internet USA).
