Capital One will give away a Chevy Volt to a mobile banking customer

Nearly all major banks have issued a mobile banking app to allow you to access your accounts on the go.

Capital One was one of the last to join the mobile banking parade, and as a result, no one has really taken notice.

The Capital One Mobile Banking app is buried pretty deep in the iTunes app store and Android Market.

So to pull out the stops, Capital One launched a giant sweepstakes to get customers to download and use its banking app: It's giving away a Chevy Volt and $5,000 in cash.

Between now and Jan. 6, 2012, each account holder will get one sweepstakes entry every day they log in to the mobile app or mobile website.

One person will win a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad2 every day.

The grand prize of a Chevy Volt will be given to one of the entries made during the sweepstakes period, and the lucky winner will be announced in early February.

While Capital One’s app is not necessarily exciting or revolutionary (the reviews on the iTunes page are lukewarm, and there isn't an iPad version available), these prizes could turn up the heat.

The mobile banking app allows account holders to pay bills, transfer funds between accounts, check balances and view recent transactions.
