Walmart extends its 10-cent gas discount

Dollar bill sticking out of gas pump

If you live in the South or Midwest, fill up your tank with a Walmart credit card.

The company has extended its 90-day Rollback at the pump, which started in June, offering a savings of 10 cents a gallon on all fuel at participating Murphy USA and Walmart gas stations.

The discount applies to gasoline purchases made with a Walmart credit card, Walmart Discover or a reloadable Walmart gift card or MoneyCard, through Dec. 24.

You’ll immediately save 10 cents a gallon at the pump, with no restrictions or requirements.

"We've heard from our customers that the savings they've experienced from the gas Rollback this summer were important and made a difference for their families," said Tara Raddohl, Walmart spokeswoman. "It's important to Walmart that we continue giving families ways to save throughout the holidays, and we're doing just that with our gas Rollback."

The drawback is that this deal is not available nationwide, only in 18 states, including Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

In Florida, Walmart credit card users receive a 10-cent per gallon credit on their statement, but the MoneyCard and gift card discounts are only five cents off per gallon at the pump.

In Alabama, Walmart credit card users get the 10-cent per gallon credt on their statement, but no discounts are available for the MoneyCard or gift card.

In Minnesota and Oklahoma, the discounts are five cents when using the credit card and three cents for the MoneyCard and gift card.

As far as the cards themselves, Walmart's MoneyCard is a great prepaid debit card.

On the other hand, both the Walmart Credit Card and the Walmart Discover card charge a very high variable 22.90% APR.

So, if you don't pay your credit card bill off in full each month, this rewards program will do you no good.
