The 7 best commuting cars for 2013
Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium Hatchback
Mileage: 27 mpg city/36 highway/30 combined
CR Score: 79
The only car on our list with standard all-wheel drive, the Impreza Hatchback provides some peace of mind in foul weather as well as good. We particularly like its generous cargo capacity. Even with the rear seat in place, there's more room for gear than the trunk of a Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan. Fold them down and there's twice as much space under the hatch for grocery bags, suitcases and other stuff. The Impreza still manages to accelerate with a bit of gusto, even though it comes with one of the least-powerful engines among our favorites, a 2-liter flat-four that develops 148 horsepower and a continuously variable automatic transmission. Among its standard features are Bluetooth connectivity and a six-speaker audio system with iPod integration.
