The 7 best commuting cars for 2013
Ford Focus SE Sedan
Mileage: 27 mpg city/38 highway/31 combined
CR Score: 71
The Focus Sedan is surprisingly fun, yet economical to drive. Although the hatchback version looks a little sportier and scored a few points higher in CR's ratings, we recommend the sedan because it costs a lot less. About $3,000 less, in fact. We recommend the standard 160-horsepower, 2-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed, driver-shiftable automatic transmission. The roomy cabin could easily belong to a much more expensive car and insulates passengers from most of the racket going on outside. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and the Focus is loaded with popular goodies. Standard equipment includes remote keyless entry, automatic headlights, Ford Sync voice-activated phone and audio interface, and a six-speaker audio system with auxiliary audio input jack.
