7 great new cars for 2013
Subaru XV Crosstrek Premium
Mileage: 25 mpg city/33 highway/28 combined
With its highway fuel economy rating of 33 mpg, Subaru calls Crosstrek the most fuel-efficient crossover in America. And that's with standard all-wheel drive. Even at rest in a parking lot, it looks like a blast to drive, particularly when covered in its Tangerine Orange Pearl paint. Power comes from a 148-horsepower, 2-liter flat-four-cylinder engine. We like the more affordable Premium version with the optional continuously variable transmission because it delivers better fuel economy than the five-speed manual. It comes with lots of extras, including Bluetooth connectivity, heated seats and outside mirrors, windshield wiper deicer and a six-speaker audio system with iPod interface. With more rear seat legroom than a Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan, Crosstrek seats five and can carry more cargo than the Honda Crosstour when the second-row seat is folded flat.
