6 cheap cars with killer sound systems
2012 Volkswagen Beetle 2.5L
Audio Upgrade: $4,470
Total Price: $24,865
There's a reason that upgrading the stereo in the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle 2.5L costs nearly $5,000.
The rocking Fender-infused, nine-speaker, 400-watt system, capable of turning your insides to jelly, is only available with a bunch of other expensive stuff that you might not want.
Priced by itself, it would cost less than $1,000. But to get the Fender stereo, you also have to buy a sunroof and navigation system.
Before upgrading, the 2.5L offers a very competent eight-speaker audio system with CD player, auxiliary audio input and iPod integration. It also has Bluetooth connectivity and a trip computer.
Included in the Fender package are Sirius satellite radio with three months' free service and audio controls mounted on the steering wheel.
We love the Fender stereo but hate the ginned up cost.
